When reports are not enough – advice for the next decision
Do you need to understand margins, plan a hire or see whether cash will last? You do not need to start with a CFO engagement. Start with the decision that requires better information.
Define a decision, not just a report
Describe what you are considering, the available alternatives and the decision deadline. Buying more analysis without a clear question can produce more numbers without reducing uncertainty. Identify the most sensitive assumptions and the information that needs checking for a useful comparison.
Consider profit and payment flows
Verksamt distinguishes a profit budget from a cash-flow budget: one describes income and costs, the other payment capacity over time. A business may therefore need both views. A decision brief should not collapse expected profitability, payment timing and funding needs into one figure.
Test changes in assumptions
Compare a base case with a more cautious alternative. What happens if sales arrive later, a customer pays more slowly or costs rise? Explain which actions the business can actually influence. Scenarios are not forecasts with guaranteed outcomes; they make consequences visible and help prepare decisions.
Buy the scope you need
A defined analysis engagement may be enough for one question. Regular reviews can suit decisions needing support each month. A CFO or controller role is a different arrangement with defined authority. Stämkoll can help scope the advisory need without automatically turning it into a staffing or leadership engagement.
Discuss your needs
Agree the scope, expertise and responsibilities before an engagement begins.
